You review essential skills with an instructor in a controlled setting, then do one dive on the reef to rebuild confidence. No new certification is added to your record. The goal is simple: get you back to where you were and comfortable doing it again. Usually done in half a day. If you're not sure whether you need a refresher, you probably do.
Most people who get certified at home spend their first real dive trip adjusting. Different visibility, colder water, unfamiliar conditions. On Bonaire, your training dives happen on the same reef you'll dive independently afterward. You get certified and comfortable in one trip. Nothing to re-learn the next time you come back.
